Ag issues

During this contest students create a plan for a proposed mock situation. The students create a scrip and play a role to perform in front of the judges. The students must choose an agriculturally-related event to mock.

Food Science

To stimulate learning activities in food science and technology related to the food industry and to assist students in developing a good working knowledge of sound principles used in a team decision-making process. Students will complete taste test, aroma test, a multiple choice written test and create a product display.

Grain Merchandising

To stimulate interest in the area of grain merchandising and to make students aware of the complex decision making process associated with merchandising agricultural products

Public Speaking

To deveope agricultural leadership by providing FFA members the opportunity to participate in agriculuture public speaking activities memebrs can comete in various contest. There are four public speaking CDEs: 1. Creed/Advanced Creed – recite the creed from memorization and answer questions(freshman)

2. Beginning Prepared – Prepare an agricultural speech, recite it and answer questions (freshman, sophomore or first time Ag Junior or Senior)

3. Extemporaneous – Draw a topic in 30 minutes prepare an impromptu speech about the topic, present the speech and answer questions (freshman through senior)

4. Prepared – prepare an agricultural speech, recite it, and answer questions (junior or senior)

Ag Mechanics

The Ag mechanics CDE Helps students develop technical knowledge and an ability to work with others to solve complex agricultural problems. The events is built around students learning and executing a “systems approach” - or the process of understanding how solving on problem influences others.

Equine Judging

The Horse Management CDE Is an educational activity designed as a practical method of teaching students’ current horse evaluation, selection techniques, and management. Students will identify tack and equipment, feed samples, and place horse and hay classes.

Dairy Judging

The Dairy Judging CDE helps students develop skills in Dairy cattle selection and herd management. Participants evaluate the cattle’s physical characteristics, explain their various classes and analyze a herd record as a team.

Job Interview

The purpose of the job interview CDE is to assist FFA member in the development of oral written skills that are used during application and interview process. Students create a resume, fill out a job application pertaining to the selected agricultural job, complete an interview and compose a follow-up thank you letter.

Poultry Judging

The Poultry Judging CDE test students’ skills in the production, processing, and marketing of chickens, turkeys, processed poultry products and eggs.

Soil Judging

The soils judging CDE is an educational activity designed as a practical method of teaching students to evaluate land and soil to determine its greatest safe potential use for urban, home site, and other non-farm uses. You will be evaluating soil pits and determining the soil ratings, classifications and these uses. A written test and test on the use of a County’s Soil Survey will also be given. There will be a Rural and Urban Soil team.

Floriculture

The Floriculture CDE requires students to identify plants, judge flower arrangements and solve problems. Participants Also demonstrate skills in flower arranging, propagation and the preparation of the floral and foliage products for sale.

General Livestock Judging

The General Livestock CDE is an educational program designed to teach students how to recognize quality production animals. Students will evaluate beef, swine, sheep, and goats. The skills students will learn in this CDE should make them a better livestock producer as well as a better consumer.

Parliamentary Procedure

The Parliamentary Procedure CDE is an assessment of student’s abilities to participate effectively in a business meeting. The team consists of individuals who conduct a mock meeting and answer oral questions. There are two contest for the Varsity team and a Novice/Greenhand team.

Ag Sales

In the Ag Sales CDE, students will gain experience and skills essential to the production and marketing of agricultural products. The team event illustrates related careers and offers to firsthand look at developing product knowledge and driving sales.

The Greenhand quiz CDE is an exam testing freshman over their knowledge about Parliamentary Procedure, FFA history, fact, business structure, leadership, and programs as an individual.
